In particular, it will discuss how adaptive control techniques, developed over the past decades, can be applied and adapted to cope with the peculiarities of soft robot models. The discussion will continue by presenting a possible line of research aimed at developing solutions for simultaneous position and stiffness control in soft robot joints and their possible applications.<\/p>\n<table>\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"119\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2768\" src=\"https:\/\/www.etran.rs\/2022\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/Screenshot-2022-05-13-at-14-01-51-IP-RO-A.-Fagiolini-IcETRAN-1.pdf-1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"140\" height=\"145\" \/><\/td>\n<td width=\"615\">\n<p align=\"justify\"><strong><span id=\"page3R_mcid9\" class=\"markedContent\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Adriano<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Fagiolini<\/span><\/span><\/strong><span id=\"page3R_mcid10\" class=\"markedContent\"> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">is an Assistant Professor at the University of Palermo, Italy. He received an<\/span><br role=\"presentation\" \/><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">M.S. degree in Computer Science Engineering in 2004 and a Ph.D. degree in Robotics and<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Automation in 2009 from the University of Pisa. He has been a Visiting Researcher<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">at the<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Department of Energy, IUT Longwy Universite de Lorraine (France) in 2019, at the School of<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Physics and Engineering, University of the South Pacific (Fiji), in 2017 and 2018, and<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">at<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">the<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Department of Mechanical Engineering,<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">the<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">University of Califor<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">nia at Riverside, in 2015 and <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">2017. He enrolled in the Summer Student Programme at the European Center for Nuclear<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Research (CERN), Geneva, in 2002, and in the International Curriculum Option of Doctoral<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">studies in Hybrid control for complex, distributed,<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">and heterogeneous embedded systems, in <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">2007. In 2008, he led the team of the University of Pisa during the first European Space Agency\u2019s<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Lunar Robotics Challenge, which resulted in a second<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">\u2013<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">place prize for the team. He was one of the<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">recipients of the IEEE<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">ICRA\u2019s Best Manipulation Paper Award in 2005.<\/span><\/span><span id=\"page3R_mcid11\" class=\"markedContent\"><br role=\"presentation\" \/><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">He is an Associate Editor of the IEEE Robotics and Automation Letters (RA<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">\u2013<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">L) since 2018 and<\/span><br role=\"presentation\" \/><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">of the IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation (ICRA) and IEEE\/RSJ<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">International Conference on Inte<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">lligent Robots (IROS) since 2017. He is a member of the IFAC<\/span><br role=\"presentation\" \/><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Technical Committee on Control and Education since 2020.
